Angel Island Act 1
Even though Marble Garden is I think supposed to be a Greek acropolis, it looks like one of those long lost Incan cities up on top of the mountains. Which is cool.I love how you clustered the ruins of Sky Sanctuary Zone together so that they look like one cohesive piece. And yet it strangely looks very much intact.(I degrees here, butI actually found out from Sonic Retro's info on that zone, which came from the Sonic Jam Official (strategy) guide, it states from an interview with the group that its name is Sky Palace, and its some type of sacred place.' I never got that far in SA3&K so I didn't think to check. I will move the little location label thingyWhen I was making this I looked at every map of Angel Island I could find, even the fan based ones.
A Not Enough Rings comic strip about the Angel Island Zone, Act 1.
I saw that map and I thought 'oh wow this is perfect!' It's just a little too small-scale.
So in the end I based my map off the sprite of angel island (which is probably obvious), but I remembered the cool stairs and stuff all built into the island in a winding path. It's also cool how you can see the different zones laid out one after another in the in-game order instead of scattered all over like in the penders-based mapsI tried to do a bit of that. The whole island is technically Angel Island zone, so i didn't label anything specific for that, but I'd imagine Sonic arriving initially at the upper-right corner.
Although I might have screwed up with the mountain placement. Maybe there's a conveniently-hidden-from-the-camera pass? I guess I should watch a playthrough at least when I revisit this.I also tried to incorporate the dome-capped pyramids and cylindrical tower things from that map in the architecture of Sandopolis and Sky Sanctuary but I guess it got covered up at some point in the painting process. I guess there's still tweaking to be done, hehehe.
Aw dang you're rightWell, wait. See, I thought Knux might keep the Carnival Night because the other little animals on the island (the ones that call him 'Knuckle,' whoever they are) might like it- but I also thought he'd pitch the rest of Eggman's crap over the side. Like, he wouldn't want it around, since it's a reminder of when Eggman tricked him, or something. So he'd clean up the flying battery and whatever he could of the launch base zone.
Basically, I thought all the Eggman stuff apart from Carnival Night would have been cleaned up by Knuckles. So would it even be there?I really did forget all about flying battery though, I was like 'hurr airship it's in the air! Don't need to include it!'
Act 1 Dance
It's like a copy of Angel Island in California xD Look, the shape is almost the sameWhen it falls down it must create huge tsunamis. The coastline cities are screwed. Good thing Station Square is on the other side of the landmass (seemingly) so it wasn't washed away.It seems to be stuck above the place it lifted up from and rotates along with the planet.I must say tho, I really doubt that the Lava Reef is there. A volcano can't exist on that island. First, the Earth's core is kept very hot by radioactive decay, that's where lava comes from.
Second, if lava was there it would melt the rocks around it and fall below. If it was at one point a volcano, now it's a gaping hole to the planet's surface. Or, rather, it would be a gaping hole as soon as it lifted up xDI'm inclined to believe it's a simple mountain though. The lava place is likely not on the island itself, but on land very close to it.I wonder why it wasn't colonized or at least had some little research camps.
It's easy to reach it by plane. I guess the remaining tribesmen could've kept people off the island to some extent, but recently only Knuckles was left, so that's kinda weird.Tropical climate also bugs me a little, as it's quite chilly up above. But that would be Sonic Team's mistake.Do you think Knuckles raised Island back up after SA2? Or did he leave it there to avoid future tsunamis?
I don't know if there was any mention of that (aside from Chronicles, it floats there).Sonic3 claims Death Egg collided with Angel Island and pressed it down below. Since Angel Island was not destroyed on impact, it means Death Egg is tiny compared to ARK and such AND that the impact wasn't strong, must've had some boosters active or something. If Death Egg isn't big, I wonder why it's weight was enough to bring Angel Island down.
Personally I would explain a lot of that with 'chaos energy' lolLike the presence of lava reef. I know it's not possible through normal science, but it's not possible for an emerald to make an island float either. The emerald could have kept the lava around, or 'cooled it' to where it wouldnt melt through the bottom of the island, while magically keeping its liquid state or something like that, which would also enable Sonic to run around right beside a waterfall of the stuff without bursting into flames/exploding. As for why this would happen I don't really know, it could be a side effect of how the chao generate a livable habitat around them.
I would assume there to be chao on angel island since they lived by the emerald altar in the past, there are probably more in the area.Anyway there being some kind of heat source under the ground of angel island would explain the tropical climate somewhat. The tropical plants were already growing there before the island lifted up, but the emerald magic and having some heat under the ground as well as the mist of the clouds would keep them in essentially a warm, humid environment like the tropics.I think knux lifted the island again, I'm pretty sure it can be 'steered' and 'parked' via the master emerald too, so that would make it kind of hard to track down if it's always moving. That it landed by the mystic ruins could be a coincidence, or maybe Chaos just waited until they were nearby before smashing out of the master emerald.I mean, if it was stuck over the mystic ruins, it would have crashed into the mystic ruins in sonic 3, not the ocean. So maybe Knux just parks it there since if it falls there, it won't really hurt anything upon impact? I mean, since it didn't in SA1, there's nothing really there.Although maybe it created that noxious swampland we see in chronicles by falling and flooding some of the rainforest lol.
