Bitdefender And Windows Defender
'Bitdefender and Windows Defender both active at the same time' Was a previous post, no one answered this question, whether one should. Just a note, for the AV, Windows Defender is disabled, presumably during the Bitdefender installation. So, I see no problems there. I am just baffled as to whether I should manually set the Windows Defender Firewall switch to off or not. I have used search engines, the Bitdefender support site, and any other site I could find regarding the subject. Feb 16, 2019 - Windows Defender is a free antivirus software that comes. I would test this myself if I knew how to get the ransomware in question. Anyone know a good way?I question the validity of the sample in question and the way it was handled is already pretty shady. For example, one wouldn't download an executable and have it immediately be 'runnable' without it being already pre-approved by the user. It's not sure what context the user in question is being run in (are they admin?) etc.Also the Defender video already appears to lean toward anti-Microsoft - the space saving comments are not the reaction to the virus, but just something the system does on occasion and was bad/strange timing. I dislike random strange attack ads, where they truly didn't give you enough data.Edit: These videos also from the same vendor, so not really a comparison. I really don't have a lot to say negative about Bitdefender, just that there have been comments made about how bad Microsoft Defender is, so I'd like to actually test it, and this thread is as good as any to ask - how can I get some viruses and malware for testing?

AV software is near useless. The only good it will do is in a corporate environment where users do not respect their work PCs liek their home as it is the I.T. Guys problem and click everywhere. Corporate AV endpoints can be disabled by port with a CISCO router. But home users?

I have Win 10 Pro x64. I recently upgraded from Bitdefender Internet Security 2015 to Bitdefender Total Security 2016. With both versions, I notice that whether booting cold or a restart, sometimes Windows Defender is active (can be accessed thru the Control Panel icon and updates itself etc) and other times it is inactive 'The application is turned off and is not monitoring your computer'.
Same thing with the Windows Firewall.Is this a known 'bug', maybe with Windows Defender or Bitdefender, that allows Windows Defender to enable itself, seemingly randomly when starting/restarting the PC. My understanding is that the 3rd party AV should permanently override and disable Win Defender.I presume that this is not a good thing and conflicts between the two will result in problems/instability.:).
